Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo B, to continue with the lesson of school dropouts. Diana got when some community members had arrived and ready for the lesson. The chairman James thanked everyone for attending the lesson. He told the community that what makes him come for the lessons, is the way his wife treats him and the children at home. He says she respects him, and also trained their children to work and be respectful to elders. Diana thanked him for the good update. She encouraged the rest of the members to emulate the family of James. Diana told them that God loves a peaceful family and a harding work one. Therefore everyone should practice love in their family, it is the only healthy way of living. It is from here that, Diana asked them what they remember from the previous lesson. They all looked at themselves as if a bomb had been dropped, then one Khamadi said ‘musawo’ meaning nurse, as it is a common phrase refered to every Kibo staff working in the community. He said that in the prevoius lesson, he remembers the lesson of school dropouts. Diana told him that he was right, but what did he exactly learn from it ?, Khamadi said that he learnt that sending the child hungry to school, can make him or her drop out of school, Sofia, said that school dropouts lead to early marriages. The community coninued with the discussion on what they remember from the previous lesson. Diana went a head to introduce the lesson of the day, which was the solutions to school dropouts and early marriages. Diana asked the community what are some of the solutions to school dropouts in their community. Zironda said that every parent should make sure that their children never go hungry to school. Diana added on saying that when a child goes hungry to school, they tend to doze in class which leads to poor perfomance in their academics, hence making some of them lose interest in bieing at school. Diana told the parents to make it a number one point to see to it that their children donot go hungry to school. Khamdai said that parents should join hands to help their children in the community. He said that when they get a child they know playing on the road while going to school, they should escort them to school or tell the parents of the child. Diana added on saying that this shows team work in the community. Parents should make it an obligation to help children who dont want to go to school, they should guide, and tell them the benefits of being at school. Diana added on that parents should escort their children and check their school attendance, this will help them know whether their children attend school or not. She also added on that parents should show their children love and be there for them, this will give them an assurance that parents wish them well. It will also push them to work hard at school. Diana also told the parents to always explain to their children what their situation is, if the money is not enough, they should explain to them and not give them false hopes. The children should learn to be content with what they have at the moment. For the children who are struggling, parents should take them to vocational training, like weaving hair, tailoring. Diana continued with the discussion which took most of the time as Diana kept explaining in details every point. Diana didnot introduce the lesson of Early marriages as she had intended to do. She will teach this lesson in the next visit. The chairman James thanked Diana for bringing such a timely message for them, as they look foward to taking children to school. He encouraged the community to emulate everything that is being taught to them.
