Notes
Budumba village is now progressing as far as saving money in their saving scheme is concerned, they decided to do this as their income generating activity because the members will be getting soft loans with very low interests , this will enable them to raise more capital to start up other income generating activities. Budumba village just like other communities has a challege of land fragmentation which has put so much pressure on land and consquently led to poor agricultural productivity however, through the community economic activities the Mvule program has been conducting since Augast the community members were adviced to look other resources around their homes , theses resources had to be raw materials the community members would utilize to start up income generating activities, chris beleived that this would widen the community members’ way of thinking and consquently change their perception of thinking that it is only through agriculture the community can develop but there are many ways through which the community can develop themselves and one of the ways is to identify solutions to current challenges within themselves . This has yielded results as most homes now have stalls for selling vegetables, sweet bananas, firewood and dry fish, this has helped many homes to earn some income courtesy of economic activities’ lessons . Last week ended when the community members had agreed to save up to 1,000,000 shillings before they can start up another income generating activity, among those activities is tree planting on commercial basis, tnis idea was brought up by Mr Eddie who argued that the community needed to have a long term plan and planting trees will be the most efficient plan, as chris winds up the year and the lesson on economic activities as well , he followed up the saving scheme and registration of the community at the sub county as well. The community saving scheme currenlty has 495,000 shillings , the chairlerson said they want to raise 1,000,000 so that that they can buy 10,000 seedlings, they want to divide the seedlings among the members , so thay they can harvest them in future and bring back a certain percentage back to the the community account. Chris also introduced the lesson of opening of bank account where he talked about the importances of keeping their money in the bank instead of just keeping it in their houses, chris talked about money safety, accountability, money multiplication and other opprtunities that come along with keeping money in the bank, the community members agreed to have a meeting on their own to decide whether to open up a community bank account or not meanwhile the community is now fully registered with the sub county with a certivpficate now. Chris wished the community members a merry chrimass and a happy new year, he will be visiting the community next year to continue with lessons about openning a community bank account.
