Notes
Alex walyomu and chris bulolo were in tnis village to continue with discussions on self progress, before they settled for the meeting Alex walyomu and chris first visited two homes of comuunity members who received the goats from kibo, these included Mr Mabodhe and Mrs Nabirye, they all had their goats and they were eating well, during the discussions they stated that caring for goats is everyones responsibility at home and therefore parents should teach their children how to care for goats. Durin the meeting Chairman Mrs Tulibagenyi welcomed the members t the meeting, he said it had been the first meeting with the kibo staff since tge community received the goats though the community had its own meeting on tuesday. He thanked the members for being diciplined on the day of distribution of goats because all the visitors who were around that day appreciated kibo for giving the goats and instilling togetherness in the community. The chairmen also said that the goats kibo gave to the commuty are doing well except a few that have cough and flu however the members are treating them very well he said the community is still together and they continue conducting meetings together as a group, he invited the chairperson Mr Nkono to add on. Mr Nkono thanked kibo for coming back to check on them, he thanked the members for welcoming visitors and strangers in the community, he said members appreciate what kibo does in the community, he says the community members have become role models in the community because many new members want to join them , he said politicians have approached him to know how kibo can work in their communities, he said they expect the relationship with kibo to be so fruitful. Mr Nkno said they had planned to meet last monday but because of uncertainities they pushed it to tuesday, they managed to meet with an intention of seeing how they can take care of their goats , many members said they were having a little flu and congh but the chairperson encouraged them to seek advice from their neighbours and buy medicine, they did as they had agreed and many have treated the goats and are doing well, they also discussed about how thy hope to sustain the group even when kibo has left the community. They hope to hear from kibo in case there is a new program coming to the community. Chris , thanked the community for sticking together, he said he thought the community would disperse after getting goats but they are still together, chris appealed to members to not think kibo is taking back the goats whenever they come back to follow up on goats but they are making follow ups to know how the goats are doing , he cited Mrs Scolastica who ran when she saw chris and Alex coming to her home last week, chris stated tha kibo would start skipping weeks before coming to the community however it will be upon the community leaders to be creative for the community to continue working together for development. Alex warned members not to take the goats for granted because the community leadership reserves a right to the goats they received, he encouraged the members to work for the betterment of the community even after kibo has left, he encouraged the community members to think about the offsprings of the community group, he said they would suggest to every goat that has delivered , they should bring the offsprings back to the community association either in terms of money(30k or 20k ) or a young goat. He said they can use the money from the offsprings to treat the goats and carry out other income generating activities, he adviced the members to seek medical attention from the veterinary dictor to minimize the costs, he added that the money from the offsprings can help members to replace the goats incase they have died, he said they can even use the money out of offsprings to offer soft loans to the members, he said this will be possible if the community members agree to make a policy for the offsprings, Alex walyomu also said this would continue strengthening the community to flourish. He said at the end of the year if every member brings back 20 thousand back to the pool the community shall develop, Alex said kibo shall continue coming back to check on the goats, he talked about the plan for kibo to form a quarterly clinic day, he said this will be every after three months, they hope to use this day to treat the goats and give more advice to the community members about the care of goats, Alex said kibo’s mission is to atleast make sure that every goat gives its first birth, he said the doctor shall be with genuine drugs and shall offer medical reports after the clinic day, however Alex told the members that the cost shall be on the community, he concluded by appealing to the community members to continue working together and attract new members to join them. Tibiwa, she said many members in the community used to laugh at them when ever they asked them to attend the meetings but now they are asking to join them, she requested kibo to provide seeds for the community members, chris replied that it was the reason chris and alex are teaching about self progress, chris said if the community can cam togther and dicuss how to use the offsprings well, they will surely be able to buy seeds and many more resources. Naigembe irene asked, what if we admit new members and after them fulfilling the requirements they ask for the goat what should we do?. Alex replied that after all the requirements have been fullfilled then they can look into the pool and give her/him a goat and advice them to bring back the offspring when the goat gives birth or the community leaders can decide to pick money from the pool and buy a goat for the new member but this should entirely be the leaders’ responsibility. Awali goerge asked, “are we allowed to exchange the goats for cows”?. Chris replied that it is okay as long as the chairperson is aware . He advised the community members to always consult the leaders. Sarah asked, “what if their is a domestic violence case at home and i want to leave with my goat , am i allowed?”, Alex walyomu replied that she should seek concelling from the leaders and should not think about leaving her home but to seek reconciliation with her husband .Alex and chris wished them a merry chrismas and a happy new year.
