- Notes
- Enock went to this village to continue checking on the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen areas, hand washing facilities, rubbish pits, clean compounds and all other facilities needed to improve on the sanitation and hygiene of the village. They focused on the standardisation of the facilities, maintenance, uses of different kind of materials to construct and even to roof. Some people always give an excuse that they don’t have bricks to construct on the pit, or grass to roof yet there are so many other materials to use while constructing these facilities. There are homes that until now have not yet constructed a proper latrine yet they already completed the digging of the pit. In one of these homes, they met the family at home and talked to them and reminded them of all the challenges that result due to poor hygiene and sanitation. This home has many kids and adults around, the community members are so tired of this home since their kids defecate in the garden next to their homes. The adults use the neighbours latrine and they are also tired of them. They reported to Enock so that he can help them to talk to their neighbours to construct a proper latrine. Enock talked to this family, taught them some of the diseases that may result due to poor sanitation in the long run may cause death. He told them that it’s high time they improved and changed from their old behaviours of lack of latrines to new behaviours of constructing good latrines, shower areas, dish racks and knowing the importance’s of hygiene and sanitation.
There are homes in the trading centre which have greatly improved and taken the initiative of constructing good standard facilities, most people have used bricks, cement and sand for most of the latrines in the trading centre as well as putting a vent pipe. The vent pipe helps on the proper air-ration inside the latrine. They emphasized on the continuous use of ash in latrines to chase flies, make proper drainage system to keep the shower areas clean. To always slash the bushes around their homes and remove broken bottles which are breeding places for mosquitoes and cleaning their jerrycans inside to remove Algae.
In addition they also visited some homes which completed the construction of latrines to encourage, evaluate, assess and motivate them to maintain all the facilities to keep the standard and sanitation levels of the community.
