Notes
Purpose of the visit in Bulyowa village, Manuela went to this village to teach about peer pressure role plays, this lesson is very important because it enables the participants to describe common situations faced by young people and how they can deal with such peer pressure. Manuela started her lesson with award of prayers led by mr mpata, after that , Manuela asked the participants about what they learnt previously, one of the participant stood up and lead the exercise, he was so good, he would ask questions and participants were able to share their ideas, during this exercise, learners used so many lives examples about what is happening in their village referring to the lessons taught about the several Emotions like love, pain, sadness, jealousy sexual feelings etc and how they can manage their anger grief , participants said that they can manage their anger by keeping quiet, ignoring the problems, forgiving, walking away, etc. After that, Manuela introduced the lesson of the day, she asked the participants that what is peers? What is pressure? no response, Manuela explained to the participants that , peer means people who are in same age bracket and have common things like how they behave and interact with one another. Pressure means force behind any wrong decisions that an individual wants their fellow peer to take on. Manuela explained peer pressure referring to the Bride model she told them that, if they talk to their children while still young about life skills for example talking to them about good communication skills, Decision making, relationships skills that will help young people to come up with good decisions that will enable them to live healthy and positively life than falling victim of bad peer pressure in the community. Manuela asked the participants another questions, what are some common situations faced by young people in their village, participants sighted answers like bad peer groups, early marriages and pregnancy, school drop out, Alcoholism and drug usage etc. Manuela asked them again to list the several strategies that young people may use to deal with peer pressure, they said for the young people to be free from peer pressure, they should avoid bad groups, they should listen to their parents advise, they should concentrate on their education etc. After brain storming, Manuela explained to the participants that there are many problems that young people face in the community as mentioned above, but Manuela advised the parents to talk to their children so that they become familiar with the situation and know how to deal with the problems or identify strategies that they are most comfortable with while dealing with peer pressure in their lives. After that explanation, as Manuela was preparing the participants for the role play, than it started to drizzle (rain)and most of the participants ran to remove their clothing and food so that it’s not washed by rain. Manuela tried to wait around hoping maybe participants will come back, unfortunately few managed to come back but Manuela told them that let stop were they had reached they will continue with the role play in next visit week.
