Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo B to teach about early marriages in children. Diana knowing very well that most communities are in the Christmas mood, she requested to meet the ambassadors of Nawandyo B. She got when they were ready for the lesson. Diana thanked them for keeping time and loving Kibo programs. Mr. Kalumba thanked everyone who attended and told them that they should pay attention to everything that is taught to them. He welcomed Diana to take them through after saying a word of prayer. Diana started by asking them what they remember from the previous lesson, Samson said he learnt to be there for his children and show them love, Sarah said that she learnt to always escort and a d visit her children at school. Diana added on that they should make it a point to always visit their children at school. This will make the children know that their parents want them to be at school. Also parents will know the performance of their children and encourage them to work hard. This will help the children to stay at school. Diana thanked everyone for their participation. She then asked them whether they have children who got married at an early age. Nasonko said that, her daughter got married and stopped going to school. Diana asked her why she got married and yet she was a school going child. Nasonko said that her she used to dig from the neighboring village to earn a living and she would come back late in the evening and yet She is a single mother. It is from here she started seeing Gadumba one of her neighbors whom her daughter is married to now. Diana added on that lack of parental guide to the children makes them make rush decisions hence making them get married before their age. Diana also said that peer pressure is another cause of early marriages , parents who don’t know the friends of her children, is bound to lose his or her children to early marriages. This is because some of these children come from unruly families who do not mind whether their children get spoilt or not. Some parents want to get dowry and get richer than their neighbors, hence forcing the children to get married before their ripe age. Daphine said that what Diana says is true, because that is what exactly happened to her. She asked Kalumba whether he did not witness it, Kalumba said that it is true he witnessed it. Diana said that it is absurd such things are happening in Nawandyo community. Zula, said that also some parents want their children to marry when they are still virgins. This is because when a girl is got when she is a virgin, the parents of the girl are given a goat by the boy’s parents, on top of the dowry that is given to them, hence making the children marry when they are young. Diana told them that it is wrong to force children to marry when they are still young. Whoever is doing it, is breaking the law. Diana continued this discussion with the community. She told them since they are going to break their saving box, she will end at that, but will continue with the lesson in the next visit, because parents need to be educated on the effects of early marriages. She wished them a Merry Christmas and a happy new year. The chairman thanked Diana and Kibo at large for educating them on the causes of early marriages. He wished Kibo and the whole team a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Dai

24925 On her way to Nawandyo B, Diana met this cute baby who was calling out to us as we passed “Kibo, Kibo”. This shows the great work Kibo has done in this community of Nawandyo. It has not impacted the elders only, but also the children.
