Notes
In today’s meeting, Lorna combined both 5e children, teens and the Adults. The meeting as usual started with an opening prayer and then opening remarks from the chairman to the community. After his opening remarks, we looked at previously what we learnt about. Musasizi mentioned that we looked a story of a married couple whose wife was bed ridden for a while and her husband went ahead and married another woman. Lorna asked the community members whether this was where we had stopped and they mentioned yes. Lorna thanked Musasizi for reminding the community and Lorna Clarified that much as it’s where we stopped, the topic we are learning is Decision making. Tumuhaise also mentioned that we looked at the process of decision making that is the steps in Decision making among which were; Think about the situation, Pray , seek advise, listen to advise, insider cultural, personal and family values , considering consequences among others. After the review, we then looked at the topic of today which was role models. We were able to define who a role model is as , a person whom one desires to be like because of certain aspects. Lorna mentioned that in life we all need someone whom we look up to it can be a politician, our parents, people in the community with us among others. Lorna opened up to community to share who their role model was. We had Mama zubeidi sharing that Khadijah was her role model when asked why?, she mentioned that she is very hardworking, rears cows and even when thieves came and stole her 20 goats and slaughtered them, she did not give up. Lorna asked her what has she done to be like Khadijah and she mentioned she bought some goats however some were stolen too. Lorna mentioned that that’s great and she should not give up but continue walking with Khadijah to be what she is and even pass her. Another old man mentioned Khadijah still as her role model and also for the same reasons. Another man also stood up and mentioned that Tiffu was his role model when asked why, he also mentioned he has many cows , he is very hardworking and has a daily income which he can buy food, look after his family. They gave really good examples and reasons why. Lorna asked the children /teens who their role models were ; hadijja mentioned Lorna why that she teaches them , gives them knowledge, she’s smart, travels many places. Lorna mentioned that she can be just that and more if she concentrated on her studies . Lorna mentioned to Hadijjas mum to educate her so she can become like Lorna and more. Mugabe another teen mentioned he want to become like “Bobi wine” alias for Kyagulanyi the presidential candidate. After they had shared Lorna mentioned that these are all good role models and urged those that did not have should look for one. She added some qualities of a good role model as; hard working, listener, honest, trustworthy among others. Lorna mentioned that lazy, people who don’t assume their responsibilities, drunkards, people who don’t respect people and themselves , always picking up fights, cannot be role models. After here we looked Life Stories where Lorna introduced what Life stories was and why it is an important lesson that we teach under Life Skills. We had 2 people share their stories because of time. Muhammad thanked Lorna for the opportunity and that it was good that the children were present to hear these stories. He shared that growing up was not the best for him in his life. He grew up in a home where his parents were not in good terms. His dad took him to School but because they were many children, he soon dropped out of school to start fending for himself. He went on to do very many odd jobs so that he would make it in life. He was very hardworking which earned him favor and also got him to travel many places like ;Rwanda, Kenya, Busia . He worked as a plumber, builder, rode a motorcycle, and now also rearing cattle like Tiffu. He encouraged the children and community members not to minimize any job and to always help other because in his journey he managed to also help his siblings become who they are today by teaching them how to build. The chairman also shared his Life story whereby he mentioned he grew up with his grandmother and father. He added that in fact he suckled his grandmothers breasts. He did not grow up with his mother and by age 6, he was buying clothes for himself. However he was never in good terms with his dad where there reached a time where his father wanted to send him away from home but his grandmother mentioned if he was to send him away, she was going with him. At some point the grandmother got an accident and could not walk and so they were forced to come back to their fathers home where he looked after her. He did not go much into school as most of the time, he was caring for his parents at home. Later in his life he was picked to be the defense of Mpumiro village for 9 years. Because of time he stopped them however, he left a question to the community and teens that why do they think they left him be the defense of the village for 9 years . He left it to the community to answer. These were very beautiful stories where Lorna asked the community members whether they learnt a thing or two and they mentioned ; hard work, humbleness, not minimizing any job among others. After the meeting, the chairman asked the community to put these lessons in practice and to be careful during this festive season and to prepare for the Academic year 2022. Lorna thanked them for working with her this year and hopes for the best next year.
