Notes
Suzan and Tape went to the village to take the incentives to the active participants who participated in the healthy and safe kitchens program. This was to,appreciate their efforts during the program implementation and to continue encouraging the community to maintain ,sustain all the Kibo program activities and to continue working together as together. The community development officer (CDO) Mr. Muguywa Enock from the sub county also attended because it was very important for him to witness Kibo activities in the village as well as to encourage the community to sustain them. Kibo staff , the CDO and some community members first walked around some homes to see what Kibo has done and whether they have been sustained .The community had neatly smeared all their buildings and the stoves were well decorated with different words appreciating what Kibo had done in their homes. Most participants were found cooking on their fuel efficient stoves which vented out smoke and was comfortable for every one to use including children. A case in point some children were found cooking food by themselves as their parents had gone for the meeting . The community development officer was so impressed to see how the entire community had improved their general sanitation and hygiene and Later own, they settled down for a meeting. The village l.c.1 thanked Kibo group for the healthy and safe kitchen program that has enabled them learn a skill of building stoves which eliminate smoke in their kitchens, use less firewood and attract men to cook or help their wives as they cook for the family. The group chairperson Gerald also thanked Kibo for the development programs implemented in their village. On behalf of the community, he reported that the women no longer suffer from smoke inhalation, no more fire accidents, the new improved stoves cooked food faster and in time yet they saved firewood because it consumed less firewood. Kibo staff thanked the community for accepting the kibo programs as well as attending all the lessons. The staff applauded the men for participating in the program which has made the program successful. The staff encouraged the participants to continue maintaining all their facilities and cooking on their stoves on a daily basis as well as scaling out to the neighboring communities. The community was also reminded how building fuel efficient stove can become one of their income generating activity in the village. Kibo staff told them because of their team and hard work,Kibo decided to give them each a bar of washing soap, and two large community saucepans to use as entire community Incase they have parties or to rent them out to the outside communities and share the money as a group. The community was so excited for the unexpected gifts that day and promised to continue working together as a team as well as embracing new Kibo programs. The community development officer briefly talked to the community and first thanked them for embracing all the Kibo programs, he appreciated how they had improved on their facilities and encouraged them to sustain them. In his speech, he also encouraged the members to continue working together as a team, form a saving group which can enable them save some money for future purposes and the meeting came to an end.
