Notes
Jeska went to Kamudoke village to follow up grass chopping progress in preparation of stove building. She reached in the village and met with the community leaders whom she asked to show her the quantity of grass that they have so far chopped. This is because in some of the lessons that Kibo had taught them before were the materials used to build stoves and how to chop grass required for building stoves. They had also encouraged them to work together, identify a day when to meet and chop grass. During the discussion program community leaders said that the participants decided that each member chops grass from her or his home and wait for her/ his time to be identified to get a stove and presents the grass to be used. Jeska saw it as a challenge because they may assume that every one is chopping grass from her/ his home which may not be true. She also encouraged them to work together in grass chopping for equal participation. She also told them for the program to be successful, participants are expected to meet and work together. She added that Kibo doesn’t work with individuals but works with the entire community. She also tasked the program community leaders to bring the community to work together right from grass chopping if Kibo is to continue working in their village. Kibo staff also looked at the grass that some participants had so far chopped on their own from their homes it was very little and some was poorly done. She challenged them that working as individuals some participants may make mistakes which may be hard to identify and correct but them working as a group they are easy to be fixed. She later on walked around the village while checking on the smearing of the buildings in preparation for stove building. Some facilities such as the shower areas, latrines, kitchens and main houses were already smeared while others had not smeared them. She requested the participants to continue smearing all their buildings before the stove building lessons began.
