Notes
Purpose of the visit in Kagulu village, Manuela went to Kagulu village to teach about how HIV Virus is transmitted from one person to another person, there are so many negative ideas about how HIV is transmitted, this lesson is intended to educate participants so that they can learn and understand about the myths and facts on how the HIV virus is transmitted. Manuela expects the participants to understand the four major fluids that aides HIV transmission and the portal of entry. Manuela reached the village and found members seated waiting for her, she greeted them and requested for one volunteers to pray, after prayers, Manuela asked participants about the previous lesson taught on the immune systems, every hand was up, members wanted to share their ideas about the previous lesson, Manuela asked for two people a woman and a man to lead the exercise, Manuela told them that they are the teachers now and she wants them to review the lessons properly, The exercise went on well members were able to share their ideas it was so good. After that, Manuela asked them about the homework, few participants managed to do their work, she asked the participants to present their findings about their research, one of the participants said HIV is a disease that causes AIDS and it’s transmitted through having unprotected sex with an HIV person, HIV is transmitted through mother to child transmission, another said, HIV is transmitted through accidents, through deep kisses etc. Manuela said deep kissing when blood is present. After that presentation, Manuela explained to the participants that HIV can be contracted in very specific ways, first, a person must be in direct contact with one of the four main fluids , she asked the participants , what are the four major fluid that speed up the transmission of HIV, they sighted answers like blood, breastfeeding milk saliva and spam, Manuela explained to the participants saying that spam dose not contain HIV virus, the four major fluids are infected blood, infected breast milk, infected semen and infected vaginal fluids, Manuela told them those are the only one confirmed but they are also other fluids that dose not lead to the HIV transmission for example the amniotic fluids found in the womb that babies float in dose not, then she went on and explained to the participants that, for HIV virus to be transmitted, there must be two things, the fluids and the portal of entry with that, transmission will take place if the clients are HIV positive. After that explanation about how HIV is transmitted, Manuela explained to the participants that the most common ways of HIV transmission is through vaginal and anal sex, she advised the participants to be careful and have self esteem not just to give to any man or a woman around , you never know whether this person is HIV positive, she said, besides that there are certain practice that can also aid the transmission, for example sharing of Sharp instrument like needles, razors which could have another’s person blood on it, through blood transfusions of untested blood and through mother to child transmission during delivery or breast feeding. She advised them not to run away from people who are HIV positive, because there is no evidence that shows that being near an HIV positive person, sharing cups or bathroom with them, hugging a person who is positive or even kissing them when blood is not present, it doesn’t lead to HIV transmission because there is no document that show that HIV can be transmitted through those practices. Manuela encouraged the parents to teach their children about this lesson so that when schools begin, they don’t mess up but concentrate on their studies. Evaluation Manuela asked the participants , what activities can lead to HIV transmission?, they sighted answers like having un protected sex with an infected person, through mother to child transmission, through untested blood transfusions etc. Manuela asked them another questions, what activities does not promote HIV transmission? They said kissing when blood is not present, hugging, sharing cups, being near them etc. Manuela appreciated them for being active and participative . She gave them homework on howHIV is prevented.
