Notes
Chris was in this community to meet the community members to discuss about the decision to receive goats, why kibo would love to give them the goats and the requirements to receive goats, although community members failed to keep time despite the mobilization by Chris and the community leaders, the discussions were very fruitful because all the leaders and some community members were present including the area LC2 mr John . The community received the news of receiving goats with excitement, even though Chris suggested if kibo can support them through other projects besides goats, community members said they want goats to supplement their saving scheme which is doing very well. Mr Eddy said he has reared goats for 6 years and he has witnessed how they have changed his livelihood therefore he welcomed the idea of kibo giving them the goats because goats are easy to maintain and multiply very quick, Meanwhile the chairman of the community Mr David expressed his gratitude for Kibo decision to give goats to the community, he said for the time he has been in leadership of the community, the only ways community members have improved their income levels are farming and rearing goats, these projects he said have been so instrumental in supporting parents to take their children to school. The chairperson Mr Otim welcomed the idea of Kibo’s decision to give goats to the community and said the community members have experience to rear goats and make sure they benefit from them because it is because of goats that some members were able to go to school and built their first houses, he for example said he built his house after rearing goats for five years, he said the goats multiplied to 15 goats which he sold and was able to build the house he is living in now. However Mr Mutujju Fred said he was struggling to feed his family as a pond that irrigated his field dried up , until he started following the example of the chairman who shifted to goat rearing and in three years mr mutujju’s goats have grown from 2 to 8 goats, he added on to say that raising goats is is an income generating activity that has enormous potential to increase incomes and improve nutrition from milk. Chris then talked about why Kibo giving the community goats, he said Kibo’s intention is to see improvement in income levels of the whole community , where the community works together and benefit together , chris also talked about the requirements to receive goats and said all community members eligible to receive goats need to have all sanitation facilities at home. He later moved to six homes of mr mutujju, mr okaisu, Mrs Nabirye, Mrs numukose , Mrs mutesi and mr Eddy, chris go back to this community and continue with lesson on decision to receive goats ( meet the community to update the community register of community households going to get goats eg sticking photos in the community album), then move to homes around the community to mobilize the community households to embrace the development program Kibo brought in the community.
