Notes
Harriet and Tape went to mpumiro village to mobilize the community to participate in the healthy and safe kitchen program.During the visit they first met with the chairperson Lc1 who told them that the village is very big and homes are scattered . He advised Kibo staff that for easy operation ,the village needed to be divided in three sections for easy operation. They decided to walk to homes of the participants in the upper section to mobilize them for the healthy and safe kitchen . It was also intended to see the methods they use as the cook food, whether they have facilities required for the program as well as to build relationship between Kibo staff and the community members which may encourage them to participate. This was un expected visit to the community members but it was effective because Kibo staff was able to find the community members in their day to day life.During the home to home visit it was observed that most participants had the home facilities like kitchens, shower areas , latrines required for building stoves, participants cooked on open flames which was dangerous to their healthy un comfortable because it produced a lot of smoke. In some homes Kibo staff found both husbands and wife but only the women were n charge of cooking food as men watched. Kibo staff requested both men and women them to always come and attend Healthy and safe kitchens program lessons because the program benefits the entire family not only women. .The homes visits were very appreciative for this approach of being physically invited by the Kibo staff for such lessons and promised to participate in the program.
