Notes
Tom was meant to make a,visit to Kisimu village to collect some data about the water needs of the community, health center and primary school but instead he opted to visit the district offices of the district health officer, district water engineer and the district education officer. Tom started with the district health officer’s office. Here he was attended to by the assistant district health officer. Tom mentioned about Kibo’s desire to provide water to the village health care center in the Kisimu area. He also introduced kibo to her as she did not know much about kibo. After Tom’s explanations, the district health officer was so happy and appreciative to Kibo for such an initiative. He sad many sick people suffer from lack of clean water when they come to the health center. The also suggested that the water consumption estimates to be considered based on the size of a health center 3 because even though its a health center 2 now, soon it will be upgraded to a health center 3 hence accommodating more patients. They both agreed that the consumption estimates for the health center to be at 5000-7000liters per day. Tom after went to the district water engineers office but it was closed. Tom mentioned to him about some of the questions he had for the office but the district water officer said his office is more that ready to offer any technical support and advise when needed. Because he was not in office, he kindly requested for another day. Tom after met with the district education officer who was able to provide core detailed about the primary school on which a discussion was based to determine the water consumption estimates. The school is called Buwoola primary school with a population of 2178 pupils (1026 male and 1152 female). A formula was used based on if a pupil was to consume 2 liters per day so that would be 4356 liters. Tom and the district Education Officer rounded off to 5000 liters. She was so happy and very thankful to kibo and Villanova university. She gave a testimony that when she was in secondary school, she used to take water for lunch and then go to the library to read because her home was very far to travel for lunch and there was no lunch at school. She said the availability of water can broaden a child’s chances of succeeding in school. Right now the school has no water and she also said the availability of water will improve the performance of the pupils in class. She attributes water to her success in school and she hopes this will also help many pupils in that school. She also offered her full support to the project.
