Notes
As Mvule community development program continues to evaluate the goats program, Alex W and Alex B met with the community leaders and some community members to continue evaluating the health status of the goats that were recently given to Bukudumira community members and engage the community to discuss what the future plans they have. The MCD staff has decided to closely monitor all the villages that received the goats last year from Kibo group making sure that the community follow the right procedures in ensuring good health for goats. To ensure the safety and health for goats, three key points need to be taken seriously including ; 1. Treatment for goods at least after every three months. 2. Good shelter for goats 3. Proper feeding for goats. The community chairperson Mrs. Margaret led the meeting and thanked kibo group for the continued encouragement and support towards the development of their village. She reminded their fellow community members to continue working together and remember that there is a lot to achieve when working together. She mentioned that the community has gone farther to raise money and buy a community tent to help them while having village functions like parties and funerals. The village secretary Mr Swaibu then gave a report about the status of the goats, he told the meeting that six out of the 55 goats given have already given birth of which two of the goats produced two kids each and rest gave birth to one making a total of 8 new additions. However on a sad note, the community has lost 5 goats to sickness and 3 goats stolen. It was at this point therefore that the kibo staff encouraged the community leaders to make sure that all people seriously consider the key points in order to take good care of their goats. One of the active community member called Hadija testified to the members that it’s indeed very important to follow those key points as mentioned by the kibo staff and surely it has helped her to have her goat produce two twins and look very health because she tries to consult a veterinary doctor every three months. This visit was to also meet and agree on the date to have all the goats checked and treated by a veterinary doctor having bought the idea from Kibo staff to hold a goat’s clinic day once in three months. Kibo group will group staff will liaise with the veterinary doctor from Namutumba district veterinary offices to plan and visit Bukudumira village to give advice and treat the goats supplied to the community by Kibo. The community members agreed that on the 16 February 2022 will hold this clinic for all their goats and will be ready to meet all the treatment costs and as well follow doctors advice. We are encouraging this idea because we hope that if all is done right, then these goats will multiply quickly and many families in these villages that receive goats from Kibo group can transform quickly. This idea has been very welcomed by the community leaders and can’t wait to see it tested and be rolled to other villages where kibo group gives goats. Alex B thanked the community for taking good care of their trees and goats from Kibo Group. He felt sorry for loss of the goats but encouraged them to see that a solution is got to stop losing these goats and encouraged all the community to be alert and watch out for the wrong people that can steal the goats. We also managed to look at some goats like those that produced twins and were looking very healthy. AlexB and Alex W also went to Kivule to meet the leaders to discuss a possibility of having a similar thing like in Bukudumira since both villages received goats from Kibo group about the same time. The chairperson Christopher was present and other leaders of the community. The chairperson of the community reported that the community had also lost a total of 6 goats out of the 50 received last year in October and a good note 5 goats were pregnant and would soon give birth. Alex W thanked the community leaders for taking care of the goats that was given to them by Kibo Group. He added that most of the goats died because of issues concerning medical. The idea concerning holding a goats clinic day for all was highly welcomed and thanked Kibo staff for such a great idea since it’s very expensive to call a veterinary doctor individually. The community members then told Kibo staff that they would consult and meet all the community members to discuss and agree on a day this month to also hold this goats clinic day. They will call Kibo group to notify us about the day to have this activity.
