- Notes
- Lorna went to this village to have the first meeting since the break to review the previous lessons and also teach on Goal setting. This lesson is taught so the community members learn the importance of having and setting goals for their lives and encourage their children to also do the same.
Previously we moved home to home mobilizing the community members for this meeting. However when we reached the meeting place there were a few people already at the meeting place. We waited for the other community members to join the meeting however time was far spent we decided to start with those that were available. The chairman opened with a word of Prayer and then gave a few remarks of what transpired during the festive season. Mwase mentioned that he is an old man and very busy for that matter but these lessons have taught him a lot. Mwase went ahead and mentioned that marriages have been improved, livelihoods and he even joked about men buying their women Gomesis and that they even have new hairstyles.
Lorna then asked them where the other community members were?. They mentioned that some had gone to a funeral and also that because of the weather, some people think there is still time. Lorna mentioned to them however that this year we are going to need the whole community to participate as Kibo is looking at the whole village being involved. We brainstormed some ideas and they mentioned to Lorna that they will mobilize and that if need arises to go and meet at the sturbon peoples houses, then we will have to go to those homes. They asked Lorna to teach those who were available and that since we have just started that Lorna should not loose hope they will mobilize because these lessons are very important and they have seen the results.
After this we carried out a review of the previous lessons where Lorna asked the community to remind her of where they stopped. It was interesting as everyone almost remembered where we stopped at the previous lesson. However Lorna asked them on the steps of decision making but they barely remembered. Lorna took them through the steps in decision making then we looked at role models. Muyodi mentioned that Nabirye was his role model because she is very hard-working, takes care of her children ,her home is always clean. He continued and mentioned that he would love his home to be like that. Also his wife to be like her. Lorna asked Him what he was going to do to become like her. He mentioned that he will go to Nabiryes home and seek advice and also ask her to teach his wife how she keeps her home. Pastor mentioned Rebecca Kadaga the former speaker of parliament as his role model because she has transformed lives and he was going be like her by taking his children to School. We looked at characteristics of role models and why everyone should have one including our children. After this we looked at goals that is what a goal is, importance of having goals and types of goals. Lorna started by asking the community members whether they know what goals are and they mentioned “kigendererwa “. Lorna mentioned does anyone have a goal for their life this year? . They kept quiet however Muyodi mentioned to take his children to school which was good. We looked at the reasons why we need to have goals for example; having a goal enables one to work hard, it gives one confidence that they can achieve something if they put their mind to it, it helps one know their strengths and weaknesses and when a goal is achieved they aim higher. We then looked at short and long term goals and what they were. A short term goal we defined as a goal that can be achieved with in 3- 6 months like planting beans and harvesting, keeping poultry , making bricks, passing exams, coming home early while a long term goal is that one that is achieved in a year and more. In the next meeting, we will be looking at different examples of goals and how to achieve them. We will look at practical examples of goals for the community members. Lorna mentioned as an individual one should have a goal , as a family and as a community.
