Notes
Tom made a visit to kitukiro village to take the pump testing and casting team from Draco. He was also to supervise and document the pump testing, casting process. Tom was in touch with the team as they traveled from kalalu in Bugweri to kitukiro in buyende. They were able to link up in Kamuli and together they proceeded to Kitukiro. They arrived the village when the community was eagerly waiting in excitement. The team set up their machines and soon after the work started. About an hour in to the work, the water level detector machine broke and work had to be stopped for a while. They were able to fix the machine and an two hours later, the work resumed. Tom inquired from the pump testing team who said the flow of water is about 500-700 liters per hour. He also soak the good part was the water recovery which was very good. He told Tom that with such recovery, there is no need of worrying. Tom was also able to communicate such information to the community residents who seemed a little worried that the pump was not pumping a lot of water out. The community people wanted to see a big flow of water from the pump in order to know their boreholes had enough water. But after the communication from Tom, they were able to understand. Tom mentioned that it’s not about the much flow of water but it being a hand pump, it’s about getting enough water when pumping. Because of time lost during the process of fixing the water level detector, they could not carry out the casting that day. They requested Tom to communicate to the village residents that casting would be carried out the next day. Tom also mentioned to the community and together a plan was devised for keeping the moulds safe till the next day. The community agreed to protect and keep watch of the moulds and other machines in the night so that by the next day, they are found well and In good positions as they were set up.
