Notes
In Nabituluntu village, Alex met with the community leaders to discuss about the future plans they have as a community , follow up on the health status of the goats and as well as talk about the new idea of conducting a goats clinic day to treat their goats. The village leaders led by the village chairman Mr. Tulibagenyi told Alex that the community has agreed to continue with the activity of growing peas even though last year was a challenge because of the drought that hit their garden and lost everything. Also the community members have continued to meet together to discuss other things to do as a village to help them continue working together like starting a saving scheme. It was such a good gesture to hear from them and Alex told them that receiving the goats from kibo group did not mean the end of it all but rather the beginning of doing other bigger things in their village. Alex was also happy to hear that no one from the village has lost a goat out of the 30 goats they received from kibo group last year in November. The village leaders were encouraged to remain active in ensuring that all people take good care of their goats to multiply to see that their village is transformed. They were reminded that Kibo’s goal is to see these goats all survive and multiply to increase in number and families get cows out of them to be able to take their kids to school. The new idea being promoted of conducting a goats clinic once in three months was highly welcomed and the leaders promised to have a meeting with all the community members soon to agree on the date and communicate to kibo group to plan with the veterinary doctor from Namutumba district. The community members also agreed to each contribute 10,000/= back to the pool instead of a live offspring goat to help them in doing other activities as a community. They thanked Alex and kibo group for this new idea of bringing services near to people as it’s expensive to individually treat one goat by a veterinary doctor. Alex then proceeded to Bupaluka Village to meet with the village leaders to discuss the same with them and continue to encourage them to remain proactive since receiving goats from kibo group never meant the end. This community however hasn’t been very active in meeting and the leaders were encouraged to pull up their strength. This community also has got plans to have a garden to plant ground nuts this season despite of the bad season last year where they lost all their rice garden to drought. All the 43 goats they received last year from kibo group are still alive. Some of the goats were looked at and they were looking healthy. The idea about conducting a goat’s clinic day was also welcomed and all agreed that prevention is better than cure. They promised to have a meeting for all this coming Sunday to discuss with all members and as well agree on the day to have all their goats be treated by a veterinary doctor. Alex reminded them that kibo group hopes for a big a change out of the goats that they received, when these goats multiply then eventually families will get cows out of these goats and be able to pay fees for their kids in school. The Mvule community development program has decided to closely monitor the villages that received goats las year to track down the success stories out of the goats by encouraging the communities to take good care of their goats by following the three key points of proper treatment for goats, shelter of the goats and feeding of these goats. Kibo group staff will plan to conduct an evaluation at some point this year in Bupaluka and Nabituluntu villages.
