Notes
Harriet and Jeska went to Kamudoke village to continue following up on smearing of the home facilities, discuss with the community on how the program can reach everyone in this village and build the first demonstration stove. When they reached in the village they first inspected some homes in the lower section to track progress.interestingly some people had smeared their home facilities. They later settled down for a meeting to discuss how the program should be implemented for it to be effective and efficient. Participants said that the village is too big and suggested it to be divided into three sections(A,B and C) to enable very one to benefit from the program. One member called Mrs.Kamoga welcomed the idea and said that this will help most people from section C who used to miss meetings to attend because they were complaining of the distance. The community by consensus agreed that the first demonstration stove to be built at Isma’s home in group A because most meetings have been taking at his home as the host, he had all the home facilities well smeared and he is the one who has been keeping the grass for building stoves. Kibo staff together with the community collected the termite dirt, kibo staff mixed the dirt and grass at a ratio of 2:1, sprinkled water on it, stamped the dirt. Kibo staff demonstrated how to measure banana stems that are used to build stoves in order to create different holes on the stove. Kibo staff asked a few participants to enter into the kitchen to watch the process stove building as they explained the whole process.Being the first stove every one was eager to see how it’s done, because the kitchen could not accommodate everyone the number was limited. Kibo staff successfully built one demonstration stove as they explained the whole process to the community and encouraged the community to ask questions where they did not understand. When the community saw a complete stove , they were very excited ,and promised to participate in the program until they master a skill of building stoves.
