Notes
The community is embracing the program and working towards accomplishing all the facilities in their homes. There has been a great impact on the issues of sanitation and hygiene. There is also behavioral change taking place in many families of this community. This is seen in a way that, people who didn’t have latrines before are now having latrines, although some are still digging pits. There is also proper use of latrines, shower areas, kitchen areas, rubbish pits and use of dish racks. Kibo Staff encouraged them to properly maintain the facilities by smearing them, use cement if they can afford, roof the latrine houses. The use of Ash in latrines idea has been bought by so many people. Martin and Enock walked around the trading centre to check on the homes which are still constructing latrines and making dish racks. Most of the homes have completed the digging of rubbish pits, one can now see many clean compounds. They then continued walking in homes near the chairman’s home to also check on the progress of latrine construction and other facilities. The residents are sharing pick axes to speed up the work on digging new pits. There are three good new latrines constructed with a vent pipe on them. Martin also helped to encourage and teach the residents to have better drainage systems on the shower areas to keep them neat and clean. In all the homes walked into, Kibo staff continued teaching, evaluating, assessing the progress as well as emphasising on the benefit and importance of good sanitation in homes.
