Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Jessica went to the village to introduce the healthy and safe kitchens program to the community. She was welcomed by some members who were already gathered at the meeting center. One of the active participants during the water and sanitation program implementation called Alice opened the meeting with a short prayer and on behalf of the chairman L.C.1, she invited Jessica to take over the meeting. Jessica began by explaining to the community the goals and objectives of the program and asked them wether they were interested in the program or not. The community responded by saying they were interested and very ready for the new program basing on the goals and objectives explained. Jessica requested the members to participate in the lessons by asking any questions they didn’t understand because it was very important for everyone to learn the first steps/lessons of the program. When Jessica asked the members any challenges they faced while cooking on the traditional three stones stoves, most of them replied saying the stove consumed a lot of firewood, too much smoke inhaled because there was no outlet, fire accidents because it’s hard for the fire to stay in one place. It’s also hard for food to get ready sometimes and the kitchen looks messy after cooking on the three stones open flames. This was so encouraging to see all the community participating in the lessons. Jessica went ahead and explained how it will be important to have unity and work together as a team during the program implementation for an effective development. The lessons/activities will be carried out step by step in each visit so as to allow everyone to learn easily. Later after, Jessica thanked everyone for attending the meeting and carried out a home to home visit in the some homes which were not visited before.
