Maria went to Nawandyo A lower section, to teach about Pneumonia and diarrhea. The meeting started with a word of prayer from Nankwanga, then the chairperson Mr Dan gave his remarks, welcoming everyone in the meeting and encouraging members to mobilize other members. Maria was invited to speak to the community members. Maria welcomed everyone, made a review of the previous lesson, then introduced the topic of the day as Pneumonia and diarrhea. The discussion started by defining the word pneumonia; Aisha said that its when a child has cough and difficulty in breathing. After the many definitions from members, Maria gave a clear definition, Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in the lungs, she said that Pneumonia is treatable and it can cure if you take the medication and also follow the advise from your physician. Pneumonia is mostly caused by dust, too much coldness, among other. The signs and symptoms were discussed, chest pain, cough, fatigue, etc. Maria advised members mostly mothers to keep their young ones in warm coverings, treat any cough and finish the dose, put on a mask in case you’re in a dusty place, working in milling machine or making charcoal as these processes can produce air with particles that can block your lungs. Saida appreciated the knowledge given by the health educator, because she didn’t know that masks helps in preventing a variety of diseases. Furthermore members together with Maria shared the causes of Diarrhea, signs and symptoms, how to prevent diarrhea and also knowing what diarrhea is. Maria said that diarrhea is passing out of loss stool more than three times. She encouraged members to go to hospital as early as possible, because diarrhea can cause dehydration which is a bad sign in one’s healthy. Maria even demonstrated how to mix oral rehydration solution(ORS) which helps so much when one has diarrhea. The meeting ended with a word prayer.
