- Harriet went to Busene village to mobilize participants for the healthy and safe kitchens program through the home to home visit. This was intended to ensure that every one in the community receives first hand invitation from kibo staff that will create good relationships between the community members and kibo staff. She was joined by one of the active committee member Edith who volunteered to walk with her through some homes in the Southern part of the village.During the home visits she observed that most participants had all the home facilities like kitchens, latrines, shower areas which are required for the healthy and safe kitchens program.Also all the homes reached cooked on the traditional three stones open fire which consumed a lot of fire wood ,produced a lot of smoke that turned the kitchen walls inside black. Kibo staff Harriet briefly introduced her self and the healthy and safe kitchens program to everyone in their homes.She told them that the program aims at improving healthy conditions in the kitchens through teaching them how to build fuel efficient stoves that vents out smoke, use less firewood among others.Most participants were eager and excited about the program and were asking a lot of questions which showed that they were interested in the program. Kibo staff asked them to bring those questions to the meeting when ever called upon so that they can learn together as the community. The community thanked kibo for this mobilization approach of reaching every ones home and promised to attend the program lessons. Harriet also asked the women to encourage their husbands to attend the healthy and safe kitchens lessons /meetings that will soon begin in their village because the program benefits the entire community.
