Bible Lesson 8: Teaching Children
Notes
Diana, Ida, and Alex Walyomu the Division Manager, went to Igerera B, to continue with the lesson of parenting in Igerera B. On arrival, Diana, Ida and Alex went home to home to continue with the mobilization of the community members and also to assess the Kibo programs in this Community. As they moved around the community, they encouraged people who did not have the kitchens to get in touch with those who built, to teach them how to build so that they live a happy life with their families. Diana , Ida and Alex kept moving up to the lower part of Igerera B, it is from here that they came across a kitchen with the words reading ‘This woman loves Cooking with Kibo’, this was very impressive, and it showed the attachment the people in this community have towards the Kibo programs. This Prompted Ida and Robert one of the community mobilizers to take a picture besides the kitchen hut. Ida, Diana, and Alex, went back to the meeting group and got the community ready for the lesson. The chairman Mr. Kamya Charles and the community welcomed Alex, Diana and Ida to their community. He said it is a blessing to see them visiting their homes. He later invited the Kibo staff to take them through the lesson. Alex introduced himself to the community, they were happy to see and hear from him, because he had ever worked in their community with the Wash programs. Alex told them that he was happy to meet them alive and encouraged them to embrace the Kibo programs, most especially their hygiene is still not on standard. He told them they should put back the dish racks, rubbish pits and improve their toilets. He told them that the kitchens that Kibo built should not be made as cupboards. He told them that when the borehole is spoilt, they should take it as their responsibility to repair it, because water is important. The community listened attentively as Alex summarized. Diana took the community through a recap of parenting skills. She asked them what they remember from the previous lesson, Rose said that she remembers how to respect one another before the children and she learnt to be patient when dealing with the issue of the children. Kimaka also said that he remembers how to take care of their wives before the children. Diana asked him how he showed love to his wife before the children, he instead sang a love song that really made the community happy. He said that he did it as the children witnessed the love he showed their mother although she is late now. Today these children also show love and care to their wives. Kimaka comes when he is drunk, but he speaks words of wisdom and tells the women to treat their husbands with love and care. He told them that they should not be fooled by men, who do not want to work and support their children and wives. Diana told the community that Kimaka has appoint. Men who love playing draft only and leave the upbringing of children to their women, should stop. Diana also asked the community, the two things that run the family. Nabirye said that it is money, Sarah said that it is peace, while kimaka said that it is respect. Diana thanked them for their trial and told them that it is am “Sorry and Thank you”They are simple words, but they can break the family. The family should teach the children those words so that they do not depart from them when they grow. She told them that parenting starts from the time of conception and fathers should take care of their pregnant wives. Diana invited Ida to add on this discussion. Ida asked the men, how many escort their wives to hospitals for martenity? James said that for him he does, this prompted a loud uproar from the women. Kaudha said that men in their community of Igerera B, prefer playing draft at the trading center than to escort their wives to hospital. Ida told them that it is wrong, the baby needs them both, women also become strong when their husbands are besides them. This promotes love and peace in the family. She also told the women to always welcome their husbands in a jolly mood and give them a hug. before the children so that they see it as a normal thing. Ida and Diana demonstrated how women should welcome their husbands, which really excited the community. She told them that the children also, will learn how to love their wives and husbands when they grow up. The discussion continued with a lot of excitement. The community requested that the group should be divided into two, the upper and the lower section. Alex asked them are all in support of the idea?, the community responded in chorus that they support the idea. Diana and Ida said that they are okay with it. The community decided that, the day and time be maintained. Diana, Ida and Alex, agreed and told them that the next visit they will meet with the lower section. The lesson was concluded with a prayer from Robert who stepped in for the chairman Kamya, after he got an abrupt call.
