Bible Lesson 8: Teaching Children
Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo B to teach the lesson of early marriages in children. It was a fruit journey, this is because a day before Diana had made a call in this community, the Secretary Khamadi told her that they had prayers (Duwa for moslems). He again called and told Diana to go because they would start in the evening, that is to say, the lessons would go on uninterrupted. Diana got the community ready for the lesson and she also received new members in her lesson. Sofia opened with a word of prayer and welcomed Peter the chairman to say something. He thanked the community for attending the lessons and thanked Diana with Kibo, for educating them. He said that the lessons have greatly transformed their community of Nawandyo B. He said that cases of Domestic violence, indisciplined children and school dropouts have reduced in this community. He posed a question to the community, if there is a person who fought or who heard a neighbor fighting his wife?, James said he did not hear anything in the community. He instead so the families practicing love and respect. Diana thanked and clapped for them . She told them that she is happy to hear such a testimony in this community of Nawandyo B. She encouraged them to keep up the good spirit of unity and love. Diana told them since they have new members, the old members should welcome them and keep them happy. She went ahead to encourage the members that she will summarize for them the lesson of community empowerment, because she is about to exit the community of Nawandyo B. She told them that they should make sure that they attend the lessons and also keep time. Susan said that they will try their level best to keep time. Diana introduced the lesson of the day and asked the community what the causes of early marriages are? Mrs. Zironda said that having no time for the children can lead to early marriages, Khamadi said lack of necessities for the children most especially girls can also lead to early marriages, Diana responded that all these answers are correct. She encouraged other members to also contribute, Kiige said that, not showing the children love and care, can make them get love and care from else where, hence leading them to marry when they are still young. Peter said that parents who like shouting and beating their children all the time, can make the children seek solace from elsewhere. Diana thanked them for their brilliant answers and encouraged them to be watchful on their children. The discussion continued as most members participated. Salima added on that, peer pressure is another cause of early marriages. This is because children mix with their friends who come from different environments, some of them are bad mannered, others have already indulged themselves in early sex, hence teaching the innocent ones such behaviors. Diana told the community members to clap for Salima for discussing well. She told the parents to always observe the friends of their children. She told them that because of time, she will continue with this discussion in the next visit.
