community meeting
Notes
Chris went to this community to follow up on the lesson about opening a community bank account, this stage of Mvule program curriculum involves a mind set change, the community needs to be sensitized enough to abandon the ancient ways of keeping money in their houses to keeping money in the bank. This means it has been a tradition that has sunk deep in the minds of the community members that keeping money in jerrycans and pits is the only way money is is kept, while some members embrace the banking system, many community members do not trust the banks , they say banks will steal their money , therefore Chris has to make sure all households get enough information on keeping money in the bank before they can make any decision on whether they open now or later. While in the community Chris first followed up on community members who missed the previous lessons on opening bank account, chris followed the household register to know who missed and who did not, Chris did this to find out why they did not attend and also mobilize them to make sure they attend the next meeting. Chris checked on 13 households before he finally settled for the meeting. During the meeting the community chairperson reported that they have started searching for the bank with the best banking services and the community well embraced the idea however the chairperson appealed to Kibo to invite any bank managers to the community, this she said the members will hear from the horse’s mouth instead of only Kibo staff telling them how good banks are. Chris will be going back to continue with the discussions on opening bank account next week.
