Notes
Diana and Ida went to Igerera B, in Section B(lower), to teach parenting skills. Diana and Ida got when the community was ready for the lessons. Diana and Ida saw the importance of dividing this group, because in reality they came from very far. They were happy that their request was honored. The chairman mr. Kamya Charles opened with a word of prayer. He told the community that they should always keep time. He also thanked Ida and Diana for looking into their request. He invited Ida and Diana to take them through the lesson. Ida thanked the community for loving community empowerment lessons. She told them their being active, gives Kibo morale to work with them. She told them that keeping time will ease the work of Community Empowerment program. She also told them that they have to respect the lessons, no greeting one another after the lesson has started, the phones should be in silence. Ida emphasized that this will ONLY be done when the teachers are teaching not all the time because the greeting take long which will cause delays .The community agreed that they will do that. Ida invited Diana to continue with the lesson. Diana asked the community what they remember from the previous lesson. Namukose said that how to take care of the children, Faridah also added on that, parents should not shout or bark at their children, Diana asked them why, she said that because this will inflict pain on them. Diana told the community to clap for her. Wilberforce said that parents should actively listen to their children and not push them away , Akamada added on that parents should also show love to their children. Diana added on that love drives everything in the family. She told them that, attending to the children’s feelings makes them(parents) win the children’s trust. Kamya said that in their community children are the ones supposed to listen to their parents, but not the parents to listen to them. The whole community chorused saying that it is true. Diana told them yes the children have to listen to their parents, but parents too, are obliged to listen to their children, because they could have a genuine reason for doing certain things. If they don’t listen to them, the children will find other ‘people’, (sugar mummies or sugar daddies)who will listen to them. James responded that Diana has a point there. The discussion continued as Diana invited Ida to take them through. Ida asked them that, how many parents take an initiative to resolve conflicts amongst their children? Charles said that for him he does. He doesn’t take sides when his children are fighting, he disciplines them together. Saudha said for her, she denies children who are fighting food, until they get tired of fighting. Ida responded to her saying that is not good to deny children food, because they were fighting, instead as a parent sit them down and ask them why they were fighting. This will give you (the parent) , how to settle this conflict. Ida asked another question, how many parents supervise their children while bathing? Jamada said that children of now days don’t want to be followed while bathing. Ida responded saying, ‘that is how the children get worms, because if poor hygiene’. She added on that when parents dodge to bathe the children watch and do exactly what the parents have been doing. This is because children imitate what parents do. She told them in order for them to get good results, they should do what is right before the children. This discussion went on well, as Ida concluded and thanked them for attending and keeping time.
