Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went to the village purposely to guide the participants to form policies that will govern the healthy and safe kitchens program as well as to introduce the smearing lessons to the community. When she arrived, she was welcomed by some group members who were already at the meeting place. Suzan first suggested they review about the previous lessons to make sure everyone was on same line. The selected committee group members stood up and promised to lead the other members during any program activities. Suzan then explained why it was important to form policies that will guide the implementation of the program. The community was so excited about the new idea and immediately mentioned the first policy which was paying a fine of 500shillings once anyone came in late for the program meeting. Suzan added that it is always important for a member to inform the committee leaders if they were sick or had any problems hindering them to participate in the program activities. Another policy was having discipline while working together with others, failure to do so would either lead to punishment or falling out of the group. The third one was to make sure everyone participated in the program lessons/activities because it will enable each member to learn the skills easily and faster as well as quickening the work. Suzan also explained to the community members the importance of smearing all their facilities and make sure everyone has improved on their facilities before the practical lessons began. She also observed that most members had poor kitchens which needed to be reconstructed especially at the roof. She encouraged the members to begin repairing their facilities before stove building lessons began. She thanked all the members for their time and wished them a happy stay.
