Notes
Ida went to Ndalike to introduce the poultry lesson. She found when the community members were reviewing the previous lessons, which include Trust in God, Harmony and unity in marriage and domestic violence. Kagoya Rehema said that Kibo lessons have changed their lives and now the chickens are going to raise their family income. After the recap, Ida introduce poultry lesson with a question “ what is poultry to you “?(hen) Kyokali said that a chicken is bird that is domestically raised, it has two legs, lays eggs and has feathers. Muhammad said that he doesn’t agree with Kyokali because a Duck has all those features but it’s not a chicken. Kisame Fred said that it’s the only bird that scratches food for the chics unlike other birds. Ida thanked them for the answers because the majority fear even to speak out their names and she told them what a hen is. It’s a bird domestically raised and officially allowed culturally to be slaughtered for an in-law. For some reason in Bantu people, ducks, turkeys and other birds are not allowed ( taboo) to be given to the in-laws. Ida then took the community members in the lesson, how to make laying stations for the chickens, how to mark eggs and sorting out the six useless types that can not be hatched. Batuli asked if chickens suffer from malaria? Ida tossed back the question to the members. Kisame Fred answered Batuli saying that chickens suffer from cockdiosis not malaria. He continued saying that chickens can cause diseases like salamonera to humans, so be careful when keeping them. Ida thanked Fred for pointing out that and encouraged them to be patient because the following lessons will be about diseases caused by chickens. Ida gave the community some work to go and find out what is needed when preparing for hatching.
