Notes
Tom and Jesca made a visit to kalalu village for borehole commissioning. They first passed by Bugweri district to meet with the District Water Officer and the CAO. The meeting between the district water officer and Tom at first was not that smooth. He demanded to see Kibo’s MOU with the district. Tom used his iPad that he connected to WiFi and was able to retrieve it from google drive. This was don after failing to see it through the many files in the DCDO’s office where Mr Roy said it is. When Tom showed him the digital MOU, he demanded a printed one. Tom was able to print out at a nearby bookshop. Even though Tom provided it, it seemed not enough, he demanded they go to the CAO’s office, RDC as well as LC5. Tom visited all those offices and every office was okay with Kibo. The CAO had already delegated someone and likewise the RDC. The chairman LC5 promised to be there in person. After all that, Tom and Jesca left the district offices at about 3:40 to head to kalalu. The village residents were very patient and Tom found them waiting. They all decided to wait for the LC5 ‘s arrival before the meeting started. When the chairman LC5 arrived, the meeting started with one of the committee members giving a detailed report about Kibo’s activities and he kibo has benefited them. The Water Officer asked Tom to prove a few questions of all the work was done well regarding the borehole drilling process. Some questions included: if the land agreement was signed, if the water user committee was set up, of the committee was gender balanced, the depth of the borehole, typed of pipes put in and how many. Tom was able to answer some questions and other questions the water user committee answered on his behalf because they know and had the answers. The chairman LC5 was appreciative of Kibo’s work in his speech and requested kibo to stay in the district to continue helping the people. Later the district water officer appreciated what kibo has done and their work and also said he would buy the idea of the borehole wall fence for their new boreholes in the District. After the commissioning, Tom and Jesca left for jinja.
