Notes
Jessica went to the village to teach the community how to build a fuel efficient stove. This time she was first going to begin with group B who were at the lower part of the village. When she arrived, she found the members already gathered who happily welcomed her to the village. Jessica requested everyone to participate in certain steps of stove building such as collecting dirt from the anthill while carrying it to selected member’s compound and then stamping the dirt together. After collecting the dirt, the community stood aside and Jessica began measuring the dirt making 2 basins to 1 basin of grass while mixing it together. She spread it and sprinkled water all over it and together they began stamping it while singing songs of joy. Some of the messages were passed through the songs such as words of encouragement and also meant that work becomes easier when the community members work together. Later after it got soft and ready for building the stove, Kibo staff picked up the banana stems, cut and leveled them while the community was watching carefully. She explained to them how important it is to make sure they took the right stem measurements because it will determine whether the stove is built perfectly or not. Poor measurements may destroy the stove from the beginning making it hard to prepare food. Jessica entered the kitchen, again took measurements on the floor and began building the stove step by step as the rest were watching. Some of the men requested to participate in the stove building because they were so excited and willing to learn the skills as first as possible. One man issabirye said he can’t wait to begin making money out of stove building once he masters the skills perfectly. This was so interesting for Jessica to hear and she requested the community to keep asking questions during the lessons which will enable them learn faster. One stove was successfully built that day and Kibo staff reminded the participants to continue cutting the grass for the next stove building. She thanked everyone for attending the lessons and the meeting came to an end.
