Notes
Suzan went to the village purposely to follow up on the smearing of the facilities and teach the community about the materials required for building the fuel efficient stoves. When she arrived, she was welcomed by three female committee group leaders kantono joy, saudah and zubedah. Most members were just coming back from their gardens according to observations and Kibo staff decided they first walk around the homes at the lower section of the village while monitoring the improvement of their facilities. As they walked together home to home, Suzan observed that most kitchens were covered with ashes because the members were cooking on the traditional three stones open flames. Children were found inside the kitchens playing with open fire as their fathers were trying to prepare food for them. According to one of the women, sometimes their husbands remain home and prepare meals while their wives attend to the gardens. Suzan encouraged the men to attend the program lessons so that they learn all the skills of living in a healthy safe kitchen free from fire accidents and other challenges. Later they walked back together and on the way, Suzan showed them some of the materials required for building a fuel efficient stove. Other members kept on joining in the walk while Suzan was explaining and showing them the required materials. She explained that all the materials are free and easily accessible within their environment such as the banana stems, water, anthill dirt, two old saucepans to be fixed in the fuel efficient stove, basins, hoes, shovels and pangas. She also showed them three particular types of grass to look for Incase the other is scarce within the village. Kibo staff thanked the participants for attending the lessons and they wished each other a happy stay until the coming meeting.
