Notes
Harriet went to Busene village to guide the community to chose program leaders that will coordinate the healthy and safe kitchens program. The meeting begun with an open prayer that was led by Mutesi Mariam who thanked the lord for journey mercies. A kibo staff Harriet welcomed every one to the meeting especially the men who had also turned up for the meeting. She encouraged the men to always to turn up for the meeting for the program to be successful. She took the community through the qualities of good leaders to guide them as they chose leaders ( make sure that they chose leaders who meet those standards). The community gave the following responses. A good leader must be a good time manager that is always arrive on the meeting place on time. A good leader must be exemplary . He / she should have all the home facilities in place . A good leader must be neutral that is he/ she should listen to both conflicting parties before judging Incase of a conflict. One of the community member called Nangobi said that a good leader must a man because men are always respected compared to women because in this village women undermine one another. Harriet thanked the community for their contribution and she added that a leader doesn’t necessarily need to be a man , she can also be a woman. She asked the community to respect the leaders they would have chosen to ease the program implementation. She also encouraged women to be active even in taking leadership because the program directly benefit them. She also told them that the leaders they are going to choose will work on voluntary basis that is not expecting any pay from kibo group but for good will of the community. She also urged the community to be cooperative with the leaders for the program to be effective. At the end of the lesson , the community chose a committee of Eight people whereby the women took six positions and the men took two positions. The leaders came from different corners of the community meaning that the community was fully represented. The leaders thanked the community for entrusting them with leadership positions, asked them to be cooperative with them during the program implementation. Kibo staff thanked the community for actively participating in this lesson and asked them to continue attending meetings or upcoming lessons when ever called upon.
