Notes
Diana went to Igerera B, section A to teach Love in the family. Diana got when the community had not yet gathered since it had rained the previous day. Most members were planting maize and groundnuts(peanuts). Diana had to move with the chairperson to continue mobilizing the community members. Some left the gardens while others kept saying that they are coming but went back to their gardens. Diana and the chairman later went back to the meeting ground. The chairman thanked the community for leaving their work to attend the community empowerment lessons. He opened with the word of prayer and encouraged everyone to be attentive while the lessons are being taught. He welcomed Diana to take them through the lesson. Diana thanked the community for attending the lessons and requested the community to always spare some time for them since the Kibo programs are done once a week. They agreed to do so. Diana told them that she respects their work and she loves it when they are digging for their families and she also knows it is where they earn their living from. Diana asked them what they remember from the previous lesson, Rose said that she remembers how they should treat their children, Nabirye said that she remembers treating their husbands with respect before their children, Namukose added on that, it is a good practice to dine together with the children, so that they learn table manners, Tibita said he learnt that parenting starts from the time of conception and that men should always escort their wives for antenatal. Diana thanked everyone for their contribution and told them that they should take good care of their children. Diana introduced the lesson of the day which was love in the Family. She asked them how they practice love in the family. Kimaka said that he lives happily with his wife, Ssaja asked him how, Kimaka responded by helping her and carrying her in the presence of the children, the community members burst out in laughter, Diana told them that is Kimaka, how about them?, Mulindwa said he knows love as something that puts families together, for him he shows love by helping his wife do house chores like cooking, sweeping the compound. Diana thanked them for their contribution. She told them that love is the healing balm that repairs rifts in personal friendship and relationships. The things we do to our friends show the love we have for them. Isabirye gave an example of forgiveness. Diana told him yes that is part of showing love to your friends. Kimaka said that men in their community have married second wives who have become a problem to their step children, they hate, deny them food, they refuse them to go to school, Mukisa said that it is true they don’t have peace in their families. Diana was saddened by these comments. Diana told them that such things are the ones that affect the development of their community, things like jealousy, hatred bitterness grudge and enmity, these affect the progress of the community. She told the women to love the children of their co-wives, they should encourage them to go to school, because they are the ones that will bring development in in their communities. They will get doctors who will treat them, lawyers will help in some cases in the community. Therefore they should show love to them with their husbands. Diana told them the story of the lost son who was welcomed by his father despite what he did. That means if we are wronged by our friends, we should forgive them. Edirisa, the Imam of the moslems thanked Diana for the good message to their community and told the community to put into practice what is being taught to them. Even them, the moslems believe in loving one another. The chairman was so grateful and told the community that those are some of the things(lessons), they have been missing in their community. He said the next meeting will be in the lower section(B). Diana thanked the community for coming and told them that they will continue with the lesson in the next visit.
