Notes
Tom, Alex W, Irene and Steven made a visit to kitukiro village for the borehole commissioning. It was very good to reach when the RDC was already on site. The meeting started right after the arrival of Kibo staff members. In their speech, the village leaders thanked Kibo for the work they have done in the village regarding sanitation and hygiene as well as the new borehole. They also said their was a funeral in the village that is why they seemed to be low in number. They explained how kibo took them through the sanitation program, selected the water committee as well as guiding them through the construction of the borehole wall fence. In the speech of the LC3,the CDO and the DWO, they all thanked and praised kibo for the good relationship they have with the district of buyende as well as the work kibo is doing in the village. They appreciated Kibo’s approach in the district where kibo contacts the district for villages in need. This improves coordination. The DWO was impressed by the borehole wall fence and also felt the district needs to copy what kibo is doing especially in the borehole wall fence. He said the wooden fence is no longer sustainable. When Kibo staff spoke, they all thanked the village residents for their participation in the program and those good relationships with kibo staff members. Kibo staff members emphasized the need to maintain and embrace all they have learnt and apply them in their homes. Tom thanked the village leadership and committee members for their work and encouraged them to maintain the sanitation standards as well as continued improving in areas that need improvements. He also thanked the person who gave their land for the construction of the borehole in order for the community to have clean water. Tom encouraged the water user committee to be transparent and committed to the work of maintaining the borehole given to them. Tom also mentioned the work kibo has done in the district especially drilling boreholes in Bulinda, Budhonga and now kitukiro. The RDC thanked Kibo for the food work they are doing in the district and requested if kibo can add the district more services. He promised to give kibo any support they need in the district. He was also impressed by the new design in the construction of the borehole wall fence. After his speech, he commissioned the borehole and encouraged the community to take good care of the borehole because its such a big investment. He also thanked the land owner for blessing the community with land to construct on a new borehole for the community.
