Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went back to the village to complete the first evaluation process. This time when she arrived, she found three group leaders named Nekesa Agnes , Amulen and Beatrice at the meeting place who welcomed her and together agreed to visit the remaining homes which had not yet been evaluated previously. They started walking home to home especially at the upper side of the village while monitoring different facilities and the stove usage. On the way, Suzan observed that most members had greatly maintained and improved on their facilities such as smearing their houses, constructing stronger firewood storages and cooking on their neat fuel efficient stoves. One of the boys named Peter was found assisting his mother to smear his kitchen from the inside parts which was so interesting to see. When asked how often he helped his mother, Peter replied saying that he does that at least once in a month and even continue making money with his young friends by smearing buildings for people around his community. Kibo staff encouraged the boys to continue helping their parents in repairing some of the facilities such as the dish racks and smearing their buildings for more blessings from God. She also requested the community members to expand the program to the neighboring communities as well as maintaining their facilities as much as possible for a healthy living. About three stoves were found with cracks and Suzan showed the members how to repair them using sand and water. At the end, 18 homes were visited that day and Kibo staff wished everyone a happy stay.
