Notes
Jeska went to the village to teach the community how to build the fuel efficient stove. This time the first demonstration was going to be carried out in sections c of the village. Jeska found the community members already gathered at Nabirye’s home whom the members had selected to receive the first stove. Jessica first explained to the community how the whole activity was going to take place because everyone needed to follow the instructions very well. She requested the community to begin fetching the dirt from the anthill using basins and baskets while carrying it outside near the kitchen. All the members participated in the first step and then Kibo staff began taking measurements of the dirt and chopped grass by pouring two basins of dirt and one basin of grass together aside. She explained to the community saying that the quantity of the dirt and grass depends on the size of the saucepans going to be used in the stove. She added that,For a bigger family that use bigger saucepans , 12 basins of dirt have to be mixed with 6 basins of dirt. While a small kitchen with small saucepans need 8 basins of dirt and 4 basins of grass. Jeska mixed the dirt with the help of some active men and later sprinkled the water all over it. Together they started stamping it while singing until lit got ready. Jessica also taught the community how to cut and shape the banana stems that will be fixed into the stove to create different holes for example for the big saucepan to sit, for firewood, to take firewood from the big sauce to the small saucepan, for oxygen to light to fire and another one to vent out smoke.Later they moved the stamped dirt into the kitchen, the community stood aside and began watching as Jessica started building the stove. She encouraged them to ask questions where they didn’t understand because they needed to learn each step especially at the beginning. Some members tried to participate in the stove building such as throwing the dirt and smoothening it after it was complete. Finally when Jessica finished building the stove, she informed the community that the stems will be taken out from the stove once it clocks one week. She thanked everyone for attending the lessons and the meeting came to an end.
