- Tom was to make a visit to Kisimu but on his way, the received a call from the assistant district water officer about the coming of two gentlemen from Mbale who manage one of the water pump projects in Magada sub-county. He said the team was coming through Namutumba from Mbale and that they would be good to ask some questions about such projects.
Tom decided to cancel the visit to kisiro and went to the district to wait for this team. While he was there, he shared ideas with the district water officer who made suggestions about the project.
One the issue of durability, he said it all depends on a number of factors such as the model of the pump, the pump load and pumping distance. He said most of the systems don’t experience minor breakdowns and for some water pump systems, they can take a while without needing repairs if everything was done well. This was encouraging because its one is the issues Tom brought up as concerns to the management of the water pump system. After a while, the team traveling from Mbale suggested that they meet in Iganga. So Tom left for iganga where he met the team briefly. They suggested that it would be good to visit the site and also speak to the local people as well on issues concerning adaptation of the system and financial management and system management. Tom agreed and a plan was made to visit the site the next day.
