Notes
Diana and Ida went to Bulyowa A upper section. They got when the community had not yet gathered, because they were still in the garden since it had rained heavily the previous. As usual, Diana and Ida moved around the community mobilizing the community members. The community later gathered. The chairman mr. Waiswa Godfrey welcomed the community members plus the community empowerment program. He apologized for the late coming and promised that next time they will try to come early. Mr. Wanjala opened with a word of prayer. The. Chairman welcomed Diana and Ida to take them through the lesson. Diana thanked them for coming despite their being busy in the gardens. She said that it is better coming than failing to come. Diana took them through a recap of the previous lesson. She asked them what they remember, Wilbur said that in the previous lesson he learnt chick and duck mash, Mpata said that he learnt Growers mash, Brenda said she also learnt Layer’s mash. Diana asked them what else they remember, Sarah said that she remembers the importance of poultry feeds to the chicken. Diana asked them why the feeds are given to the chicken. Mpata, said that maize brand gives proteins, Wako, said that cotton seed cake gives carbohydrates, shells gives calcium, Mbeiza said that salt gives taste. Diana clapped for them and requested the community to clap for them too. Diana told them that it is encouraging to teach the people and they truly understand the lessons. She told them that poultry rearing is a good business and they should embrace it in Bulyowa community. This is because it will definitely fight poverty in their community. Diana invited Ida to take them through the lesson of the day. Ida thanked the community and told them she is happy they took good care of Diana. She told them that she has noticed how good looking the men and women of Bulyowa are. She thanked them for embracing the lessons and putting them into practice. She also thanked them for welcoming other programs of Kibo in their community. She went ahead to ask them the importance of glucose, Namuganza said that it gives the chicks strength, Ida thanked her and added on that the glucose like a human being makes the body strong, the chicks become warm and energetic. She told them the chicks should be warm all the time and they should make sure the feathers of the chicken are on, because they protect them and keep, them warm Ida taught them the amount of feeds and ratios to be given to the chicks, growers and layers. She told them to feed the chicks up to around three weeks. After that they show should stop feeding them at night. She taught them to monitor the chicks up to twelve weeks. Wamala said that the lesson is enticing, he asked Ida if the Kibo organization can find market for them or buy for them some chicken to start with?. Ida requested Diana to answer Wamala Diana responded to Wamala and the entire community, that Kibo does not buy feeds, chicken or look for market for them. They have to work hard and look for their market. This is because Kibo has done a lot for them, it fuels the cars and sends its staff to sensitize them. Therefore they should be happy, because Kibo programs have greatly transformed Bulyowa community. Godfrey thanked Diana and Ida for the enlightenment. He encouraged his members to embrace these lessons and count it a blessing to have such lessons in this community. Ida continued with the lesson and told them that they will continue from there in the next visit, this time it will be how to raise the chicks , growers and the layers. The community community was grateful and thanked Diana and Ida for always being there for them. They will not disappoint Kibo, because it has loved them so much.
