Notes
Diana went to Igerera B, lower section to teach love in the family. Diana got when the community had not yet gathered, she decided to go to the near by homes to do more mobilization. Most people were in the gardens, when they saw Diana, they hurriedly said that they were coming, the funniest bit was that they said it while still digging, as they mentioned ‘amaido’, meaning ground nuts. Diana laughed as she went back to the meeting ground to wait for them. The community later came, the chairman Kamya Charles welcomed the community. He thanked the community for leaving their gardens in order to attend the community empowerment lessons. He opened with a word of prayer and invited Diana to take them through the lesson. Diana thanked the Chairman for his tireless work in mobilizing the community. She thanked the community too for honoring the community empowerment lessons. She told them that she knows the importance of garden work and it is the one that feeds them, however they should also spare some time to attend the lessons. Diana asked them what they remember from the previous lesson. Zahiya, said that she remembers that parents should dine together with their children, in this they will learn table manners. Sarah, added on that parents should be exemplary in everything they do, because children imitate what the elders do. Diana thanked them for their beautiful answers and for always remembering what is being taught to them. Diana introduced the lesson of the day which was love in the family. She asked them how they practice love in their family. Chales said loving his wife and children, Denis said, by helping his wife, like cooking and washing clothes, James laughed as the community chorused asking him why he was laughing, James responded saying that he doesn’t believe that Denis can help his wife, because he is always at the trading center eating nice things. The community laughed hard and said all men do that. Diana intervened and told the men if what their wives are saying is true, then they should stop it. When there is love in the family, the family stays together. For example eating together, praying together, telling stories. These things promote love in the family. It is from here that Hajara responded saying that these things happen only with people in urban areas, but people in villages cannot do such things. She went on to say most especially the second wives treat their children harshly, so how can they eat together? Hajara was furious as she said this. Diana encouraged the community to stay calm and told them that treating your co.wife’s children badly can in the end affect them. Those children can turn up to be doctors , lawyers, who will help them in their health and cases. Diana added on saying that hatred and bitterness are the things that have hindered development in their community of Igerera B. Therefore they should work on having peace and be United. The discussion was still on, but because it was getting late, Diana stopped there and told them that she will continue with the lesson in the next visit, since there is a lot to handle in this topic of love in the family. The chairman thanked Diana and the entire Kibo program staffs for removing them from the ‘darkness’ and making them live in light. He encouraged the community to always sacrifice the day for the lessons so that they get blessed with the lessons.
