Notes
Enock reached when the VHTs and Chairman LC1 were waiting for him to meet and then walk home to home to check on the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen areas, rubbish pits, clean compounds. They first met to talk about and find out why some people haven’t completed with the construction of their latrines yet they already dug the pits. They also continued and set a date for accomplishing the construction of latrines by 31 of this month. They all agreed to mobilize and encourage all the residents to construct good standard facilities which will last them some good years. After the meeting, they started walking home to home to check on the improvements, maintenance and uses of all the facilities. As they were still moving around, they continued teaching the community members including the children to improve on the sanitation and hygiene. This is because it will reduce the continuous spread of diseases like diarrhea, trachoma, dysentery, cholera which may kill many people but all caused by poor sanitation. They can also avoid over spending of money on medication once they have the facilities in place and using them effectively. Many people who have latrines gave us testimonies that their kids have been properly concentrating in class because diseases have been reduced, development in homes is taking place and saving more time to be productive in their gardens unlike before when open defection was the order. The continuous use of ash was taught to the family of Mr Mukose Eria. Enock saw many flies inside his latrine and Enock demonstrated and taught the family about the importance of using Ash in the latrine. The community has generally maintained and embraced the program hence increasing the sanitation levels.

2579 The resident called Mukose Eria, has completed his latrine. When I asked them how they felt having and using it, they told me how happy they are having it. They can now properly welcome visitors in their home without any fears. There has also been good organization and cleaning of all the facilities in this home.
2582 The lady in the picture is called Nabirye Iduma. She is so appreciative and happy to have a new kitchen in her home. She can now cook the food and seat with her children inside the kitchen even though it’s raining heavy or the sun is shining too much. There is great joy in this family.
2585 She can now take showers during the day and after the garden work. This is because she now has a good shower which is behind her.
