Notes
Alex and the veterinary doctor once again talked to all community members that received goats from kibo about the need to seriously follow the three key factors in rearing of the goats; Feeding, good shelter and treatment save a goat a lot from many sicknesses. The veterinary doctor told the community that spraying every goat at least once a month and deworming a goat once in three months helps to curb a lot of diseases that may attack a goat. For the last three months, many of the people hadn’t done enough to ensure their goats looked health but it was a timely activity to have all the goats treated yesterday. The doctor observed that majority of the goats looked healthy but needed more treatment to protect them from Nagana and other worms. 29 goats including the one goat produced were treated , he gave two injections to every goat to curb worms, one through the mouth and all sprayed against ticks, fleas and lice. Unfortunately one community member called Rose lost her goat suddenly. Seven goats are now pregnant and will soon give birth to young ones. Nabirye Monica, Peter and Moses had their goats sick and had diarrhea. The doctors advise was that all goats should be sprayed at least once a month, the goats shelter should be well ventilated to prevent flu and cough. Bad feeding can also cause sudden death to a goat since some grass type have a lot of toxins , only good grass should be given to the goat to eat. The veterinary doctor also advised that if a goat is having diarrhea, give iodized salt and crushed charcoal as first aid and then call a veterinary doctor to give further treatment. From what Alex observed, this is a highly recommended and important activity to do and will continue to tell all communities that receive goats from Kibo group to have these goat’s clinics conducted on a quarterly basis. The community will again plan to meet and decide when to have their second goats clinic and go a head to plan with the veterinary doctor. The goal is to have this activity entirely organized by the community leaders and only let kibo group know but not necessarily attend.
