- Purpose of the visit in Kagulu village , Manuela went to this village to teach the participants about Diseases Progression and positive living.
Manuela reached the village did not find anybody at the meeting place, decided to go round and mobilize members but unfortunately some members were still in their garden but some were at home, Manuela told them to come for the lessons. After that Manuela came back to the meeting place, she waited for them still they came though not many.
Manuela greeted them and asked them about the previous lesson, some participants were able to share their ideas about the previous lessons. After that Manuela introduced the lesson of the day, she asked participants, what is disease Progression? No ideas, then Manuela had to explain it for them, Manuela said that disease Progression refers to the time and duration HIV takes to move from one stage to other stages. Manuela asked them if they could be knowing those stages , no response, Manuela argued them to try, she even used several examples to make them understand still no response, Manuela had to mention all stages and she explained each stage to them.
Window period, Manuela told the participants that, it refers to the time between infections and when a person develops enough antibodies to show up positive on HIV test. Manuela told them that, that stage is too infectious. Incubation stage, is the time between infections and development of diseases associated with AIDs. This stage takes long depending on one immune systems. Honeymoon period, this is the end of windows period and incubation period. It’s called Honeymoon period because the person who is HIV positive now lives in harmony with the virus.
After explaining all the stages, Manuela asked the participants questions about her explanation, one of the participants said that she never knew that even HIV have stages, that was new to him, another woman said that she thought honeymoon are for married couples, it’s also new to her. Most of the participants said that they have learnt new things today which is really good for them . Manuela told the participants that they will start from where they stop due to change in weather.
