Notes
Maria visited Kishaike village upper section, to teach about menstrual hygiene and skin infections. Maria introduced the topic of the day, The discussion was started by identifying the meaning of menstration as the period when blood comes from your uterus through the vagina, this usually happened every month provided the woman/ girl is not pregnant, “ said the health educator “. The health educator continued elaborating more about menstruation / period discussing the time when one may start and the age to end. Maria said that menstruation start in puberty stage at the age of 12-14 years old, though some people may get them a bit early or late. She said that if some one reaches the age of 17years without starting her period, that person should consult a physician. The health educator asked the members what cause menstrual irregularities, and how to overcome such challenges. Namumbya said that some family planning methods cause these menstrual irregularities, but the health educator added and said it is mostly caused by infections, trauma, hormonal imbalances etc. Members were advised to bath frequently while in periods most especially women and girls, put their under wears under the sun, or else iron them, wash with soap or jik as this act as a disinfectant, etc. Haniffa said that most men do not provide the necessities needed by women during this period, ( soap, jik, even water). Maria encouraged the men to support their women during this period by providing the necessary requirements. Poor menstrual hygiene cause a lot of infections because every infection that enters your private part goes direct up to the tubes, uterus which is more harmful. Furthermore the different types of skin infect were discussed, the mode of spread, signs and symptoms, how to prevent skin infection from spread in case one family member has it, and how to treatment it. Members mentioned the types of skin infections; fungus, viral , parasites etc and also encouraged each other to keep clean their clothes, bedding, etc. Members were so grateful for the knowledge given to them and promised to put into practice what they learn.
