Notes
Suzan went to the village and found a few participants already gathered at the meeting place. After exchanging greetings, they first sat down and discussed about the current village status and how far the community had gone with improving on their facilities. The group chairperson reported that Some community members at the upper section were repairing their kitchens by constructing new roofs and smearing them while others were reluctant saying they were carrying out other activities. They decided to walk together and check on the facilities while waiting for more participants to come. During the home to home visit, Suzan came across a young boy named James who was busy constructing a dish rack for his parents which was so encouraging to see. Besides the dish rack was a kitchen which needed to be repaired and smeared. Suzan requested the young boy to inform his parents about the visit that day and to request them to improve on their kitchen before they receive a fuel efficient stove. Later after visiting a few homes, they went back to the meeting place and found more members had come. They walked to Nakato’s home where the stove was previously built and Kibo staff with three active members started taking out the stems step by step while others were watching. Suzan kept on explaining how the whole activity should be carried out with care to avoid damaging the stove and also requested Nakato not to cook on it until it turned one month old from the time it was built. Nakato with other participants used cow dung mixed with dirt and ash to smear the stove after the stems were taken out. Kibo staff requested all the participants to continue improving on all their facilities especially the kitchens before they received a stove, and that only those that had well improved facilities will receive the fuel efficient stove first. They thanked Suzan for the lessons taught and the meeting came to an end.
