Notes
Alex W with two visitors, Bryn and Dr. Ron from Pepperdine university together with four village leaders visited 26 homes checking on goats, trees and other kibo group programs that have been in this community. 22 goats are pregnant and will produce from April, may and June months. The household members visited with these pregnant goats have done a good job taking good care of their goats however it was realized that none of the people had ever sprayed their goats against ticks and fleas yet they are the sources of many diseases that kill the goats. It was reported that a total of 11 goats have since died of which 3 were stolen, 1 died in a motor accident, 4 died of sudden death and 3 died of natural sickness and out of negligence. One family decided to exchange their goat for a pig and it was doing very well. The general observation was that there is a big hope in the near future when the pregnant goats eventually produce. It was then resolved and agreed that all the live goats be treated on 11/03/2022 by veterinary doctor during the goats clinic. Earlier there was no reaction when Alex first talked to them about this idea back in early Feb so this prompted Alex to make this visit and it’s clear some of the goats might have died due to lack of treatment. While in the meeting the community leaders and other community members were encouraged to maintain all the kibo group activities and continue to work together to elevate their homes and community at large. The visitors from America also encouraged the people of Kivule to continue working together and look after their goats-to help them in the future. MCD program will plan to call the community leaders to follow up on the community response towards the goats clinic day
