Notes
The most challenging part right now is the season as the community members are preparing their gardens, others planting groundnuts among others. In today’s session however , we were supposed to meet in Busuyi however they lost a child whom they buried the previous day and were still mourning and so it was a last minute change where we called on the lower section to come and attend the meeting. Wakiso first called and told Lorna not to go because they had lost someone but then Wilber told Lorna that they can mobilize some people in the lower section to come so they don’t miss the lesson. In th meeting we reminded ourselves of the previous lesson and thereafter we continued and Lorna mentioned that we were going to divide ourselves into 3 groups of A,B and C. Lorna mentioned to all the groups that we going to look at consequences of early pregnancy to the girl, boy , community and country at large. She asked them whether the community and country are affected by early pregnancies and they said yes. Lorna went ahead and asked do the parents of these teenagers suffer consequences, they said yes. She told them to go into their groups and discuss. Some of the responses from group A on the consequences of the girl and baby were; giving birth prematurely, not having enough breast milk, tearing because the body is still young and tight. Cravings which she cannot afford, Die while giving birth or abortion, spousal and parental neglect. Consequences for the baby were; may not get the right care from parents for lack of experience, may suffer consequences of post natal depression from the mother , lack of basic needs, lack of right foods to eat, right beddings among others. After group A, we had group B who looked at consequences of early pregnancies to the boy child. They discussed and presented that ; the boy may get imprisoned, drop out of school, forced marriages, risk getting HIV, among others. Group C discussed consequences the parents of these teenagers face and the consequences to the community. Among which were; its the parents who will look after their child and their child’s baby’s needs, they are afraid if their daughter will give birth safely and for the big child fear of imprisonment, poverty, Domestic violence between the parents especially if only one parent knew that their daughter was pregnant and did not let the other know. As they were still continuing the clouds formed and it immediately started to rain and the community members dispersed to their homes. It was unfortunate however there was nothing to do so Lorna also decided to head back to Jinja. Overall it was great discussions .
