Notes
Ida went to Ndalike to teach about feeding chickens. She asked the community what they feed their chickens, Mugote George the VHT said that they don’t feed chickens at all. Kisame added on saying that if it’s harvest time, they chase chickens from their compounds where they keep the harvest. Ida thanked everyone for participating and sharing their views . Ida asked the women what they feed their babies from day one to six months, Janet said that breast milk only, Kagoya said that milk and Silvia said that she feeds her baby with millet porridge ( bushera) Just as babies have their food according to the age, so do chickens. A chic can’t swallow something bigger than the throat, that’s why chics from day one to eight weeks have a special type of food called chic and duck mash. Ida then gave the chic and duck mash recipe. Tatya asked that “ can’t he buy feeds that are already mixed from vet shops to avoid wasting time trying to mix feeds by ourselves “ Ida answered saying that it’s ok to buy feeds from shops but the only risk is that some people are not Honest. In stead of selling genuine feeds, they will sell feeds that aren’t good to earn more profits when a client is loosing money. Eg you will buy 43 kgs of maize brand in stead of 62kg which will affect the growth of the chickens. Sabina asked if Kibo will give chickens to members as they gave goats, Ida frankly told them that Kibo will not give chickens but teaches how to begin with the chickens they have because every home has at least one. Kisame elaborated saying that Kibo Kibo gives communities hooks but other fish. The chairperson thanked members for attending and participating in the meeting.
