Tom and Martin made a visit to Kagulu village to check on progress made in sanitation and hygiene. When they reached the village, they found when the chairman of the village and the committee members were waiting for them in the trading centre. After greeting and sharing a little about the progress of sanitation and hygiene in other sections of the village, they finally agreed to move around the section of the trading centre from the health centre towards the lower section. In the homes around the health centre, they found when one resident had finished his latrine and was in the construction stages of putting on the roof and smearing it. Kibo staff Tom and Martin thanked him and his wife for working hard to finish the latrine because for a long time, the man was sick in a hospital in Kampala and was suffering from hepatitis B. To see that they were able to work and construct a latrine in such a situation was very encouraging to the committee members who also thanked him for what he had done. Also in another home, their new pit collapsed but have started on a new pit. Tom encouraged them to dig the circular pit as it is more stronger in the sandy soils than the rectangular pit. There were also dish racks being constructed as well as rubbish pits being dug. In the lower section, they found a section of the village where there are about six families but all with no latrine. They have just moved to the village like six months ago and there was even open defecation around their homes. The committee members encouraged them to go to the chairman of the village and get pick axes to start on digging their pits. They all agreed to doing so and thanked the committee members for telling them about the value of sanitation and hygiene. Others in that section are working on dish racks and bathrooms. After they left for jinja.
