Notes
Tape went to the village to teach the participants in group A how to build the fuel efficient stoves as well as to remove the banana steams from the previous built stove. When she arrived, she found the participants already stamping the dirt which they had collected from the anthill. This was sign to show that the community was interested in the new healthy and safe kitchens program. Kibo staff was so pleased to find the members actively participating in the stove building lessons. She joined them and together stamped the dirt until it got ready for building. Some new members kept on coming to the lessons after attending to their gardens because the rains had started. The dirt was moulded into small balls and carried inside the kitchens where Kibo staff began building the stove step by step while explaining to the community members. This was important because new members had joined in and needed to learn the first steps. The women were so excited to watch how the stove was built and tape requested them to come with their husbands in the next stove building lessons since it wasn’t easy for most ladies to build the stove alone. Some women were too old and weak yet they showed much interest in the lessons by participating in certain steps. Tape also requested the elderly women to be coming with their children who can easily learn all the stove building skills. This can also turn into their daily income generating activity which can enable them to earn some money for their daily use. In the end one stove was constructed and tape walked along with the members to another home where the stove was previously built and she taught the community how to remove the old banana stems from the fuel efficient stove. She requested the members to keep smearing their stoves once in a week at least to avoid cracks.
