Notes
The hand washing activity in Bupaluka was such a big deal to the people that attended having realized that hand washing is very important in their lives. Alex asked the community members which critical times are important to wash their hands, Mrs. Mary Mutoto mentioned when breast feeding the baby, after visiting the pit latrine and before eating food. No body said that they wash their hands before greeting each other and many of the women also said that rarely do they wash their hands before breast feeding their babies since babies will be crying. Four community volunteers, two ladies and two men demonstrated hand washing without soap and with soap, there was a very big difference witnessed between the two. It was well understood and noted that hand washing with soap is such an thing to do as it cleans someone’s hands thoroughly than washing without soap. Mrs. Livingston had earlier thought that she had very clean hands but she was surprised that after washing her hands with soap, there was a lot of dirt seen in the water. Alex also demonstrated using posho flourto show that it’s important to wash our hands with soap as we share the meal together. Very important that long nails are cut, as we greet each other we have to remember to wash our hands always. To complete the sanitation cycle all the community members agreed to embrace hand washing and the new demonstration stand was also liked. The village leader Mr Utah promised to spear head this program and make sure all households construct these stands and embrace hand washing in men, women and children.
